Subject:Please fund SLO open space
San Luis City Council:
Please fund San Luis Obispo open space. Having access and using open space is critically important to children, especially
in the era of COVID-19. I introduced my 4-year old granddaughter to South Hills Open space last spring. While initially I
thought the hike would be too challenging for her, I was pleased to find I was wrong. She climbed to the top peak for her
first hike. It was beautiful to see the wild flowers, hawks, and expansive view of SLO. During 2020, my granddaughter
and I hiked Cerra San Luis, Fromm Open Space, and Islay Open Space, all of which were first time experiences for both of
us.
Please continue to fund San Luis Obispo open spaces as children need have safe trails for them to hike, view, and
explore the native landscape. Hiking not only is beneficial for physical exercise, it is wonderful for educating them for the
“what’s that?” questions, and to develop their imagination. Children see the world so much more creatively than adults
do.
Sincerely,
