I used to know every single pickler, but now there are dozens and dozens of new players each month. I live across from French Park and not only play there, but walk or drive by several times a day and I see new people daily: kids, teens, families, millennials, old geezers like me, you name it, they are out there playing ALL day long. It’s a wonderful, joyful sport and social activity. We clearly need more courts in SLO because of this increasing rate of popularity. Mitchell Park seems like a great venue as there aren’t courts downtown, it is close to the Senior Center to serve that population for exercise and social connection, and it will be a wonderful, Covid-safe gathering place for the downtown demographics. If you haven’t tried pickleball yet, I invite you to try it. Come any weekday morning to French Park and there will always be folks to loan you a paddle and give you some play time. Or call me (805-545-8949) and I can give you a hand. It is a BLAST and so darn easy to learn. Happy planning! Sincerely, Blaire Kilbey 1
