Subject:Feb 2 Agenda Item #11 Mitchell Park Pickleball Courts
To Whom it May Concern:
I was quite excited to recently learn that the City Council is considering a request for funding for two permanent Pickleball
courts to be located at Mitchell Park.
I fully support the building of more Pickleball courts in various locations throughout San Luis Obispo and especially at
Mitchell Park as it will give more access to this fun sport for all ages.
I have been a "senior" Pickleball player in the area since the first "temporary" courts were approved on the Meadow Park
basketball court and then the temporary (shared with the tennis court) and ultimately the relatively new permanent courts
at French Park were approved and installed. However I do still find myself travelling to Shell Beach often to play there as
all the SLO courts are fully utilized with long wait times to play. Access to Pickleball has helped to keep me, and many
others in San Luis Obispo, healthy and sane this past year and the Parks and Recreation department is to be commended
for their efforts to work with City Council on funding for additional courts.
Pickleball is becoming more and more popular with younger players too and is now a "sport unit" taught in our local
Middle School. I play with my adult son and two granddaughters on occasion and, as they live in the Mitchell Park area
and I live on Palm Street, I would certainly welcome the opportunity to play with them more often on a court close to
home. I am convinced if there were available "permanent" courts within walking or biking distance of many up and coming
younger players it would encourage them to go out in the fresh air to play.
Thank you for your consideration of funding for the Mitchell Park Pickleball courts.
Sincerely
Judi Boscaro
