Subject:Mitchell Park Pickleball Courts
Wonderful to hear that you are considering putting two pickleball courts at Mitchell Park. We are in desperate need of
more courts in SLO. We have been playing pickleball here for the past five years and the sport started with eleven of us
and we now have over 200 members in the pickleball club. It is the fastest growing sport in the U.S.
The sport is a great sport for families and people of all ages. That is where we have seen the most growth in the
numbers of people playing pickleball. Even though our club has grown so much in membership, the number of young
people and families have taken over the sport. We enjoy playing at French Park but have gone there many times and we
need to wait just to get a court to play. We often have to drive to Avila Beach to play at their courts.
We can't stress how much we need more courts. We also live in downtown SLO so it would be very nice to have some
courts close and not have to get in the car and drive to play. We could easily walk to pickleball courts at Mitchell Park.
Some courts at Emerson Park would also be ideal in the near future. Now that they are playing pickleball during P.E.
classes in middle and high schools here in SLO, the young generation will be wanting to play more and the need for more
courts will rise considerably.
Sincerely,
Gary & Joyce Zanini
