Wilbanks, Megan From:kevin duffy < To:E-mail Council Website Subject:New Pickleball Courts at Mitchell Park Hello Council Members, My name is Kevin Duffy and I am a long time resident of SLO. I went to Cal Poly in 1987 and made a decision that I was going to spend the rest of my life in the best city in the world. I was a career prosecutor and retired six years ago and pickleball was one of the first things I added to my retirement schedule. It is the fastest growing sport in our country and for good reason. It is a great way for both old and young people to stay active and socialize in our community. My wife and I are both active young retirees and we actually live one block away from our home on Morro Street. We are both pickleball players who play on average 6 times a week. Right now there are more players than courts to meet their needs. Mitchell Park would be ideal because currently there are no court available in the downtown area. Actually, 4 courts would be better than 2 if that is possible. I am 51 years old and we also play with our son and daughter in law who are also SLO residences. It is definitely a multigenerational game. We also play with a group of beginner players and are constantly getting requests to teach others. Older tennis and racquetball players who are no longer fast or healthy enough to play those sports are finding pickleball a great option that they can play in their 70's and 80's. I love that it would be right by the senior center where many of them will be able to take advantage of the perfect location. I can be reached by email if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Kevin Duffy 1
