Dear Council members and Mayor Harmon,
Please find attached our letter in support of the DEI Task Force proposals, including the adoption of Diversity, Equity and
Inclusion as a major City Goal.
On a personal note - I just want to say how impressed I am at all the work this Task Force undertook and the excellent
recommendations that came out of it - the work has just begun!
Cheers,

Re: DEI Task Force Recommendations and DEI City Goal
Dear City of San Luis Obispo Mayor and Councilmembers:
I am writing on behalf of the Gala Pride and Diversity Center in support of the DEI Task Force
recommendations to address systemic discrimination within the City of San Luis Obispo.
We strongly recommend approving DEI as a major city goal. This will demonstrate the City’s
commitment to equity for all residents and enable the conversations and changes that are needed to
create a “happiest city” for everyone.
The Proposal and Recommendations and the focus on improving policies, practices, and structures that
increase diversity and inclusion, reduce bias, and protect the wellbeing, safety, and empowerment of all
its residents are welcome changes that will be of ongoing benefit to all and directly align with our
mission:
The Gala Pride and Diversity Center supports and empowers people of all sexual orientations, gender
identities, and expressions in order to strengthen and unite our Central Coast community.
We hope the City will choose to prioritize these recommendations and follow up with direct action to lay
the framework for what local municipalities can do in the realm of DEI. San Luis Obispo really has an
opportunity to lead the way for the whole County.
We look forward to working with you to eliminate the disparities in our community and achieve more
equity by investing in the Task Force recommendations. We stand ready to participate in any way
appropriate and helpful. Please adopt Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as a major city goal!
Sincerely,
Michelle Call
