The entire side of the street in question is made up of apartments, town houses, and condominiums. That side of that street always has cars parked there since there are much more residents than the other side of the street which are single family homes. That side also has many cars. I have lived on that street since 2000 and there are more and more cars due to Cal Poly enrollment numbers increasing and I have have seen more students in those units. I walk my dog twice a day and know that stree very very well. If you were to remove the parking it would create a crisis in that neighborhood and would increase illegal parking and encourage people to park in other people's assigned parking spaces since they could not find anywhere else to park. I find it shocking that nobody considered the types of dwellings on that block before making this proposal. The owners of the single family residents would be heavily impacted as well. There is a friend of mine that lives in Newbury Park on a street with all condos and apartments. There is always stress involved in visting him since I know I will have to drive up and down over and over looking for a parking spot. I have also seen tension and arguments over people driving up and fighting for a spot. If this were to happen on Oceanaire, I can see people making many illegal turns at LOVR and Oceanaire to circle back if they could not find a parking spot, which would affect public safely, especiall when school starts back up. That intersection has heavy foot traffic for students walking to Laguna Middle School. Adding another traffic risk factor is not needed on that path. Also, most of the cyclists that I see are going down LOVR, not Oceanaire, where there is already a bike lane. - Frank Osgood 1
