Much to my dismay, I only learned today about the proposal to remove all parking on the side of Oceanaire Drive adjacent to our property. The section under consideration, between Los Osos Valley Road and Galleon Way, contains numerous apartment buildings, condominiums, and rental houses. Parking in this area is already much in demand, primarily by college students who live in this neighborhood. At the time the houses and multi-units were built on Oceanaire, Cal Poly was much smaller and not as many people had Carson general. Therefore, the property parking allotments were inadequate to fit today’s needs. Our visitor parking is extremely limited. Visitors and contractors must park on the street to access the condos. When there is road construction on the street or if there is asphalt maintenance on our property, residents often have to walk several blocks away to find open parking spaces. This, in turn, impacts other nearby neighborhoods, making it difficult for the occupants to park their cars. In addition to the student population, there are a lot of retired residents, or those with disabilities, who are unable to walk any distance from their home. To remove the available parking, would make a difficult situation even worse for seniors who prize their independence by being able to drive themselves to their destinations. Please reconsider this proposal. Removing a substantial amount of parking spaces will not improve our street. We already have bike lanes in our neighborhood. Not all people can use bikes, or even walk to where they would like to go. They must rely on their vehicles being in close proximity to their homes. Thank you for your consideration.
