Subject:Pickle Ball Courts in Mitchell Park
Good afternoon SLO City Council -
I am writing today to express my extreme disappointment to the idea of citing pickleball courts in Mitchell Park. This
park serves as one of the few green spaces in downtown SLO, that all residents use to recreate and enjoy.
Pickleball courts serve a disproportionately small fraction of the community for the amount of area they consume. There
are many other spaces in SLO that would provide the space for pickleball courts and not jeopardize the small amount of
green space we have downtown, displacing a lot of individuals from using this space.
Furthermore, pickleball courts would drastically reduce the available space for gatherings, rallies and free speech events
that often happen in Mitchell Park. We hope that is not the intention of the city, but hope the City officials will do their
best to foster the community of San Luis Obispo and it's people.
Please consider relocating these courts to other parks in SLO with more space that would not jeopardize open space
availability in Downtown SLO for our community. We really need this.
Kind regards,
Lauren Gordon
A resident since 1988.
