Subject:Patiently Waiting for The Community to be Served
Hi,
My name is Kalea and I am a student at Cal Poly.
I am writing in to voice my concerns regarding the installation of a new pickle ball court and the
upcoming potential renovations /updates to the SLO PD. I want to wholeheartedly reject both of these
issues, as they in zero way serve the community in easy that we must be served during this time.
Please address the SLO community and the needs/demands that have been put forth which cause real
harm reduction. Grant money should not be used for new recreational courts, but instead for housing
the houseless.
COVID-19 is still rampant in our onw community and has a disproportionately negative effect on our
own black, indigenous, and other people of color living here who face financial struggles. It is common
for people to suffer financially from the pandemic. For this reason, I am urging the City Council to
actually begin addressing the needs of those who face food, housing, and healthcare insecurities at this
critically dangerous time.
I am earnestly asking that you begin to serve your people by divesting from harmful carceral systems
such as the police (SLOPD/UPD) and instead invest that money into rent/utility relief. You have a
responsibility to address the needs of the community, not ignore them.
I am respectfully asking that you adhere to the detailed demands listed by Cal Poly students as well as
the community demands set forth by several concerned members of the SLO community. We are not
asking. We will continue this work until our community is being rightfully served.
Sincerely,
Kalea Conrad
