Subject:Plans for SLO country funding for council meeting
Good Morning,
My name is Jordyn Miller and I am a resident of San Luis Obispo, CA, 93405.
We do not need to expand any police funds, services, or departments. They create more problems and trust issues than solve any
crimes. It is a waste of time, energy, and money, and blatant disrespect and harm towards marginalized communities that are present in
SLO.
We are in a state of emergency, a time of crisis. The COVID-19 pandemic has left too many people, families, and children hungry, cold,
and unsheltered. This is unacceptable. Distribute relief now. People- specifically BIPOC and Latino folks- need rent relief now.
We need strong and healthy community members if we ever want to be a strong and healthy community. Divesting from police and
ensuring COVID relief are two ways to start that. Our black and brown residents need help and we have the power, resources, and
ability to help them.
Actively supporting police and siding with the economy over people during this pandemic is harmful, dangerous, and genocidal. Do your
part to save your people.
Listen to the public- the voices not up on pedestals, the voices of people that do not look like you. Support the demands local political
organizations are calling for (Abolitionist Actions of the Central Coast). I understand many college students are becoming more vocal in
our community. Please listen to them. They are a part of our community as well and are necessary for a better future of the community
and the country.
We will not stop until we get justice.
