Remarks:
1243 Iris for a Structure fire, a vehicle involved in the garage of a two story, single family residential structure.
Upon arrival, E-3 was assigned Division A by Battalion 1- our assignment was to back up Truck 2 who was assigned as Fire attack.
Upon entry, it was determined that the home sprinkler system in the garage had extinguished the vehicle fire (Mazda Miata)
prior to our arrival, with no fire extension into the rest of the structure, however there was smoke extension into the
residence which was removed by T-1 crew utilizing PPV ventilation.
E-3 and T-2 personnel began salvage and overhaul of the garage and residence, and assisted the residents with recovery
needs. The residents requested red cross respond for support assistance.
The residents stated that the cause was a portable heater was used inside the vehicle to dry off wet upholstery from recent
rains, and ignited the interior of the vehicle due to close proximity to the combustibles.
Upon completion, IC turned over the scene to residents and all units were cleared from incident.

Primary Narrative:
1243 Iris for a Structure fire, a vehicle involved in the garage of a two story, single family residential structure.

The residents stated that the cause was a portable heater was used inside the vehicle to dry off wet upholstery from recent
rains, and ignited the interior of the vehicle due to close proximity to the combustibles.
Upon completion, IC turned over the scene to residents and all units were cleared from incident.
Additional Narrative (#1 of 2 ):
T2 arrived and was assigned Fire Attack. T2 found light smoke on inside of structure in hallway and living room. Door to garage
was left open. Heavy smoke in garage in water flowing from sprinklers. No active fire found. T2 requested horizontal
ventilation. After ventilation, garage door locked found and roll up door opened. T2 also assisted with turning off sprinkler
system. Primary and Secondary exam clear on 1st and 2nd floor. T2 assisted with recharging water after sprinkler heads
replaced by T1.
Additional Narrative (#2 of 2 ):
Battalion 1 arrived on scene and found a two story single family home with light smoke coming out the front door. I assumed
command as Iris IC and assigned resources as stated in their narratives.
Fire was out upon our arrival with light smoke in the garage and the living space.
Sprinklers were shut off to limit any further damage from water and crews used PPV to ventilate the structure.
Structurally there was no damage to the house or the garage. The drywall suffered smoke stains which were heavy in the
garage and light in the entry from the garage to the house.
Crews salvaged contents in garage and removed the vehicle that had caught fire.
Investigation of cause found that owner of vehicle had placed a portable floor heater into the vehicle to help dry out the
interior from the rain we had the last few days. The floor heater caught the interior of the car on fire and the fire was
extinguished by the sprinkler system in the garage.
Crews also replaced the sprinkler head in the garage and was able to turn the water back on for the resident. No building
notification as there was no damage to the building and the building could be inhabit by the occupants.
Owner ( was notified and he was en route to access the damage and notify his insurance company.
