Dear Mayor Harmon and City Council Members,
As you are considering the three major City goals that will shape capital improvements for the next several years, I
believe that Climate Change, Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity and Housing are three most critical goals.
I believe that sustainable and active transportation is a critical component of any city’s future success in meeting its
climate change goals. It is also imperative to meeting the 20% mode share goal, thereby eliminating significant green
house gases and building a more sustainable and livable community.
Easy access to adequate and safe walking and biking infrastructure clearly helps to address issues of equity and
inclusivity by expanding ease of mobility while strengthening opportunities for positive interactions between all
members of our community.
The need for affordable housing in San Luis Obispo is well documented as are the statistics that support infill. In order to
meet climate change goals and to increase the diversity of our city, active transportation plays an integral role in
supporting housing that is both affordable and accessible.
In order to successfully meet these three major city goals, I believe that significant and ongoing funding for active
transportation is necessary. I would like to see the ATP Tier 1 projects plus the Bob Jones Trail connection to the
Octagon Barn be included in the F21-23 budget cycle so we will see true progress in the growth of active transportation
for our city
Thank you each for your consideration of this request.
