To all it may concern;
My Hill St home and property backs up to the current proposed park. The park and us are separated by the year round
flowing Garden Creek. Over the last 3 years since purchasing our home in SLO people have dumped chairs, recliners,
mattresses and other trash in the creek which is accessed from the current community garden (proposed park.) Along
with the trash, we have witnessed homeless camping in the area, and a homeless permanent camp structure, built right
on the creek father down and closer to HWY 101 Broad St entrance ramp but probably in the city park property. The
homeless situation has led to personal trash of all kinds, defecation, urinating, swimming in the creek, and loud talking
and yelling night and day. I along with other neighbors have called the police on occasion to intervene in the situations
that continually develop in the area. The wonderful SLO City Park Rangers are the ones wading into the water and
retrieving the large objects and debris in the flowing creek after being notified. My hats off to them as everything is a
pollutant in and down the stream. The planned riparian set-back fence in the new park will certainly help mitigate trash
dumping in the creek.
I am so happy that the planners have put together a good, well thought out plan, that will serve our local neighborhood
and overall community well. I urge all Council members to approve the park not only for safety and sanitary reasons,
but to offer locals a place to sit and ponder in a comfortable and natural area. There is abundant flora and fauna for
everyone to enjoy! Thank you & hope to see all of you at the new park opening!! Sincerely, Tom Perry, 534 Hill St. 360-
722-4468.
