Item 8
Mayor Harmon and Council Members,
I am sorry to have to say it, but you have found the worst possible location for a park that is supposed to
welcome families. Next to the freeway, occupied by vagrants who will most certainly return as often as
possible to this location, and with very limited parking. I understand that the city does not wish to spend
the money to provide the park they had once promised to the community, but it’s no reason for insulting
this same community by throwing stones at them instead of flowers. Fortunately, there is a lovely mini
park on Mission Street, and I assume that most parents will go on taking their children there, and leave
the new park to vagrants.
I also would like to remind you that the entire northwestern part of the city, not just the Anholm area, is
void of parks (the so-called Throop Park is not a park, it belongs to the school district who can do
whatever they want with it--and have indeed done it in the recent past.) It is regrettable that the city has
been much more interested in packing this area with expensive student apartments rather than
providing families who live there with a real park. We need a better system of election, one that would
divide the city into districts, so that this area is at last represented by the Council.
Sincerely,
Odile Ayral
