Subject:Please Divest from SLOPD and Invest in Community Resources

Hello San Luis Obispo City Council,
I hope you all are well. My name is Courtney and I am a resident of San Luis Obispo. I am emailing you all today in regard
to the meeting that was held on March 2, with one of the topics covering funding for the San Luis Obispo Police
Department (SLOPD). Per the June 1, 2020 event, where SLOPD responded poorly and unnecessarily aggressively
towards peaceful protestors, I would like to voice my concerns, and state that the SLOPD should not receive
additional funding, and instead receive a large cut of funding. Those funds can be used to reinvest in the community and
provide vital resources that the SLOPD does not and cannot provide.
While there are many things to say about the events that occurred on June 1, 2020, the message I would like to convey
is that the SLOPD should be divested from, and other community resources should be invested in. Other counties and
cities in California have already seen positive effects when they rely on other resources (not the police) to handle crisis
situations. I ask that San Luis Obispo do the same.
Thank you for your time,
Courtney M.
