Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. ________________________________ Honorable Council members, Any decision concerning the future of the night hiking is premature because the Staff Report does not discuss the result of the wildlife monitoring that has presumably taken place over the past 3 years. A 1/16/2018 Staff Report stated that the Pilot program will include rigorous monitoring of night hiking impacts on wildlife. to this end, the Staff report explained that for the duration of the pilot program, Four wildlife game cameras ( Bushnell or similar model), cover boards, detection equipment, and field surveys will be used to monitor and track nocturnal wildlife composition, activity, and behavior. The cameras and cover boards will be checked weekly, and detection equipment will be used monthly. during the pilot program and will be used to inform the presence of wildlife species using the Reserve. The current Staff Report explains that Four wildlife game cameras were installed, and field surveys were conducted by Terra Verde Environmental to monitor and track nocturnal wildlife species composition and any observable and notable wildlife activity and behavior." Yet, the Staff Report does not appear to include any data or description of the results of the monitoring. I have searched through the Agenda Package and Staff Report for Item 12, but have not been able to find any reference to a monitoring report. If I somehow missed the report, kindly direct me to where the report is located. It is difficult to imagine how the Council could discuss the future of the night hike program without any information about the results of the monitoring program. I therefore urge you to continue this item and direct staff to prepare and publish a report on the results of the monitoring program.
