Dear Council,
I am writing to encourage the SLO PD to consider new and creative approaches to the Bike and Ped safety efforts as part
of the OTS grant efforts. Around this time last year several of us concerned parents sat down with Mayor Harmon,
Sargent Cudworth and Captain Amoroso to discuss new and modern approaches to traffic enforcement and safety.
Unfortunately, shortly thereafter Covid hit and we understood the need to table this conversation.
Now that I see the OTS grant has been applied for, I would like to request that SLO PD work with several of us bike, ped,
and child safety advocates and Bike SLO County to try a different approach for the bike and pedestrian safety portion of
this grant program. OTS has highlighted several agencies who have taken a more creative approach to bike and ped
safety rather than ticketing folx just trying to get around by bike and on foot. I would think that we could come up with a
new approach that would address the root cause of traffic safety issues.
