Mayor Harmon and Council Members,
I urge you to seriously think of our wildlife and our natural preserves (which are not the same as
recreational parks) before you take any decision on night hiking and, especially, night biking. I also urge
you to make a serious effort to determine how much wildlife is left on San Luis Mountain.
This is what I see as the biggest problem: Bikers and night hikers have just about erased the wildlife that
used to live on San Luis Mountain, and few people seem to care, but YOU should care. As members of our
City Council you claim to care about Mother Earth, but your actions don’t always match your words,
unless, of course, you believe that Homo Sapiens are the only living beings that matter. If you want to
preserve this planet for our children and grandchildren, you have to think of all the living beings, and put
them ahead of recreational selfishness. Homo Sapiens can have the mountains during the day, but they
should leave them to the other animals at night, so they can eat, hunt and prosper, and still be here when
your grandchildren are grown.
Sincerely,
Odile Ayral
