Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Dear Council, I'm a resident of the city of San Luis Obispo and want to express my strong support for a continuation of the extended open space hours during winter. This has been a wonderful resource over the past two years and especially popular during the holidays. I understand and appreciate that not everyone shares this view and may want the open spaces to close at dusk during winter. However, please consider the following: 1) Montano de Oro (state park) is open until 10 pm even during the winter and it's not clear that has had any impact on wildlife or emergency resources. 2) While I personally do have the luxury of using open spaces at times during work hours in the winter, many people do not. As a simple matter of social justice, working individuals should still have at least some access to short hikes and/or biking during the winter. 3) Much of Cerro San Luis is private property and there are a variety of entrances that bypass the city open space. Allowing monitored use of the city open spaces helps channel and control evening use and may even mitigate impacts on wildlife across the entire mountain ecosystem. Thank you for your work on the Council and for considering this request, Joel J. Orth 2523 Meadow St. San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 805.550.7157 "Biking is politics by other means" 1
