Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Mayor Harmon, Vice Mayor Steward and Council Members Andi Pease, Jan Marx, and Carlyn Christianson I am glad the City Council has an opportunity to once again consider the Open Space Winter Evening Hours of Use. Hiking makes for a fun activity, it's a great healthy workout. A hike in nature can provide the space and balance one looks for. It can provide an emotional break or quality time with the family or a friend. As residents we are so fortunate to be surrounded by open space, to have the opportunity to enjoy amazing sunrises and sunsets. But we are not alone. This open space is the home of wild life, reptiles birds, bugs, butterflies and insect. As keepers of this space, for present and future generations, please take steps now to protect and preserve this open space. For the safety of hikers, the peace of families living in the neighborhood and to protection of the natural life living in this open space, please reduce access during the winter evenings. We humans go where we want to go, build where we want, obstruct views, take over beaches. We bike everywhere and are allowed to hike until one hour after sunset. With all the hours of access we already have to open space why do we, humans, so desperately need more? Are there no limits? If we do not protect the open space and its natural habitat who will? Mother Earth is sending us messages every day. We are all contributing to Climate Change. Limiting night hiking and allowing nature to take it's natural course will protect and preserve the Open Space as intended. The future is in your hands.
