Dear City Council,
Here is a late plea for you to vote to allow continued access to Cerro San Luis during the shorter days of winter.
I’m an elementary school teacher and have been hiking that mountain on Thursdays for almost 20 years. I share the
marvels I experience with my classes often. We see gorgeous sunsets, get a great workout, and see beautiful stars and
constellations. We immerse ourselves in the wind and elements
We stay safe using headlamps. We’ve never had an incident/accident and plan to keep it that way. Having more time to
descend contributes to our safety so we don’t have to rush down. Most of us work full time or we would start earlier.
We see few animals, so there’s no disturbance occurring. Once, I saw a skunk and occasionally we see hawks and deer.
We would never disturb wildlife, as we would always protect it. We love the chance to get out, stay fit and enjoy a great
meal in your fine city.
We are low impact, and respectful of nature. We not only don’t litter but take trash we find (very little) away. The
benefits of hiking year round are many. I would like to formally invite anyone not familiar with such a joyous activity to
join us any Thursday at 5:30 pm at the base.
Please consider our request. To know nature is to protect nature.
Thank you so much!
Respectfully,
Valerie Trenev
