Tree Committee:
I told you when you allowed the ineffectual (except for helping developers ravish our town) Matt Horn to hoodwink you
into approving ordinance changes that eviscerated your committee, that things like this would happen.
And, they’re happening, just as I easily predicted.
I don’t know if I can attach pictures, but I will if I can, and, if not, I’ll attach the pictures when I forward this email to city
administration and the City Council.
Here are the two examples:
1. 1035 Peach Street. The tiny sign that is used to so-called “announce” upcoming action on trees does NOT list an
applicant and it does NOT say whether the application was approved or denied. That’s illegal because, if a citizen
should just so happen to happen onto the tiny sign, and just so happen to get close enough to read it, he/she would
not know what the sign even means; then, said citizen would be told that he/she had until April 4 to appeal
a decision that’s not even listed. But, no matter: I’m sure that, given the fact that a careful citizen like me did not
happen onto the uninformative sign until April 5, I was unable to protest a decision that was not even listed.. Of
course, since we have a Peter-Principle Public Works (for the Developers) Director, there will be no consequence and
I’m sure the applicant (whomever he or she is) will be allowed to slaughter yet another healthy tree as this
committee continues its march into oblivion.
2. 1531 Monterey. Here, the slaughterer, er, applicant, was allowed approval of his/her slaughter, despite the fact that
this beautiful, heritage tree provides unending habitat, shade and oxygen, because its roots push up the sidewalk.
Well, there obviously hasn’t been any maintenance done on the sidewalk for YEARS, and this committee did not
FORCE the slaughterer to do maintenance, so he/she only had to whine about having to maintain the tree and, voila!,
he/she was allowed to slaughter a tree. Again, this committee remains more and more eviscerated.
But, more than anything else, both of these trees were allowed slaughter without ever being on a Tree Committee
Agenda. Not only does this committee regularly try to keep citizens from having verbal input, but slaughters keep
happening without trees ever being on the agenda. So, a citizen has to stumble onto a tiny sign (a local website says
that there are 197 miles of roadways in the city so what are the chances of ANYONE seeing ANY of these
signs?), he/she has to figure out what an improperly-filled-out sign says, and he/she has to do so before the appeal
deadline (thanks to Matt Horn, the deadline is only 10 DAYS after a decision is made on a tree).

ECOSLO is working tirelessly to plant more trees in this continually-paved-over city, while the city is doing everything it
can to allow slaughter of wonderful trees that already exist.
Sound like the “happiest place on earth” to you?
