Subject:Criminalizing houselessness

Hello,
I'm writing to denounce the proposed ordinances which would explicitly ban tents from public parks and declare
unattended shopping carts a public nuisance. These ordinances criminalize houselessness while providing no aid or
solution to the issue of housing and financial insecurity.
How would someone who sets up home in a public park even have the means to pay off such a fine? As a San Luis
Obispo resident, I do not have a problem with my unhoused neighbors doing what they need to do to survive, and I
would much rather have them where they are now than in more unsafe areas.
Again, this ordinance provides zero aid or solution to the issue of houselessness. Instead, it draws a tarp over the whole
ordeal in order to make the city appear "better" than it is. I would like to see proposals and conversation around budget
distribution toward assisting our houseless community if it is of concern to you.
Please reconsider whether this ordinance is something that would benefit San Luis Obispo, or if it is a degrading means
to target our unhoused. Ordinances like this stir protests, rallies, and will get San Luis Obispo sued by the ACLU. Do not
proceed with this ordinance.
Best,
Sara Entezar
