Good Morning, FCNI would like to express our appreciation to the City of SLO HRC Members for consideration and recommendation of Family Care Network's 2021-22 grant cycle request to support Transitional Age Youth. FCNI provides Housing and Support Services to Transitional Age Youth (TAY) – youth ages 18 to 24 who are emancipating from the foster care system - who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness. FCNI housing and services are often the only option available to provide the stability TAY need as they heal from adverse childhood experiences and prepare to become independent adults. While residing in FCNI housing, youth receive intensive one-on-one life skills development training, case management and counseling, educational support and job readiness training, among other supportive services, as well as financial assistance to cover costs associated with daily living. While case management and housing are supported by contracts as essential services, daily living expenses are often considered beyond “basic,” and are more difficult to fund. To ensure that our youth are able to take full advantage of the stable housing and direct support that FCNI provides, we must be able to ensure that they have enough to eat, can address basic hygiene, and have reliable transportation to get to and from work. A GIA award would help FCNI ensure that our youth are able to support the costs of daily living so that they can take full advantage of the supportive services that we provide, and work towards becoming self-sufficient. We thank you for your support on behalf of the vulnerable population of TAY that we serve, and look forward to continuing to work with the City to ensure they have access to the support needed to become independent and successful adults. -- JOANNA BALSAMO-LILIEN Property Management Specialist Phone | (805) 503-6268 Mobile | (805) 270-9386 Email | jlilien@fcni.org This e-mail, and any files transmitted with it, are intended only for the person or entity to which it is addressed and may contain confidential, protected, and/or privileged material.
