Hello City of SLO HRC Commissioners,
My name is Linda Wingert and I am the Chief Operations Officer of United Way of SLO County. Our team at United Way
and 211SLO wishes to thank the HRC Commission and the City of SLO for their funding recommendation this year and
for their continued support of 211SLO in prior years. Your support is integral to maintaining the 211 SLO Resource and
Referral program that helps thousands of residents in the City of SLO and throughout the County of SLO get connected
to the resources and help they need, especially now during COVID-19.
In Q1 2021, 211SLO received 2,690 calls which is a 40% increase over Q1 2020, so the need for resource
information continues to increase.
211 is a free, easy to remember, information and referral service using rich data and access to live, trained
specialists via phone, SMS/text, and web to connect community members to health and human services and
disaster information in their communities.
211 has been a lifeline for SLO County residents to access real-time COVID-19 pandemic information. With the
increase in demand of 211 due to COVID-19 there is a real need to support these critical services.
211 relieves pressure on the 911 system by providing access to non-emergency information. This ensures that
emergency responders are better able to focus on situations requiring rescue and direct intervention.
