Hello!
You have before you a proposed contract with REACH relative to promoting economic development; if you wish to avoid
feeding the "demonic suction tube" that Dr. King warned us about--insatiable military spending that makes all
taxpaying Americans complicit in an ever-rising tally of crimes against humanity--you need to avoid passing this consent
item as currently written. REACH defines our region in terms of the military bases (Vandenberg and Camp Roberts) that
bracket it, and actively (unsuccessfully, it turns out) lobbied to have the new US Space Force headquartered at
Vandenberg. If you believe that REACH's values are incompatible with the values of your council and of the SLO
citizenry, you can simply decline to approve this agreement.
In the event that you do go forward with it, I would urge you to explicitly remove "aerospace and defense" from the list
of "target industries" for which REACH intends to "accelerate job growth," and make it clear you do NOT want them to
attract such jobs. Not only does attraction of such jobs morally taint your council and our citizenry, but it also could lead
to an unhealthy boom-bust cycle in the very likely event that skyrocketing national deficits, and a growing frustration
among our citizenry with military adventurism that spreads death and destruction while making Americans LESS safe,
leads our national lawmakers to come to their senses and reduce the flow through the spigot that funds "aerospace and
defense" to preserve finite national resources for spending that serves and affirms LIFE.
Many thanks, Eric Greening
