To: San Luis Obispo Planning Commission Re: May 25, 2021 - Item #2 - Review of a Tentative Tract Map (Tract 3157) to create 23 residential lots on a 4.98- acre site within the Low-Density Residential (R-1) zone. PROJECT ADDRESS: 468/500 Westmont From: Mila Vujovich-La Barre Dear Honorable Chair Jorgensen and Commissioners - As a resident of Ferrini Heights, I am concerned about the proposed construction on Westmont Avenue. While I understand that it is within the right of the property owner to seek to build homes adjacent to the residential area, I am concerned that the residents on the neighboring streets surrounding the development may have not been properly noticed in a timely manner. The development will impact traffic on both Cuesta and Stanford. These are currently somewhat quiet streets. Since there are 23 homes being proposed, this could potentially add 80-100 cars and multiple vehicle trips to those streets. In addition, I am concerned about the cutting down of mature trees to facilitate the construction. Those trees are home to local wildlife. Recently, the Tree Committee, over Committee Member Root’s objections, did not consider continuing this project based on the insufficient information that was provided by the applicant. The matter should have been continued until detailed information was provided about the removal of so many mature trees. Every attempt should be made to work around healthy, carbon-sequestering trees in order to preserve them. The construction is also proposed along the riparian/ wildlife corridor. It was my understanding that an effort is always made to protect those wildlife corridors within the City. Lastly, we are presently going on four very dry years of drought with no end in sight. It is my hope that any future development that is approved in our City, be done thoughtfully and with the availability of water a primary concern. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Mila Vujovich-La Barre San Luis Obispo, California 93045 milavu@hotmail.com 1
