Planning Commission:
We live at 644 Cuesta Drive, the last house on Cuesta Drive abutting the proposed project. We have owned our home
since 1970 and were always concerned about the future development. Our primary fear was that Cuesta would be
extended to Westmont and allow a second option for accessing Cal Poly’s campus and divert traffic from Highway 1
through our neighborhood.
The proposed project has a much better street and lot plan.
While we have enjoyed the horses the Meinhold’s boarded, the raccoons, and wild turkeys as neighbors, we understand
the need to develop the property. We have been approached by neighbors from Stanford Street hoping for our approval
of the idea that traffic should only be on Cuesta, not in “ their neighborhood.” It is obvious for safety reasons that access
must be available on both Stanford and Cuesta.
I have read the entire 104 pages of the proposal. We are very impressed with the thoughtfulness of the project. The
street layout makes the project accessible for emergency vehicles and residential access. It does a good job of
eliminating potential traffic flow problems. It addresses the impact during the construction period.
We have been notified by other neighbors about concerns regarding tree removal. The elimination of the very large and
dangerous trees is necessary for public safety. The Meinhold property had large eucalyptus trees abutting our property
for about 45 years. On three occasions large branches fell on our home. One ripped out our electrical wires and switch
box, one damaged our fence, and one came through our skylight and into our bathroom. Ms. Meinhold finally tired of
the costs repairing the damage and had the trees removed.
The project report does a good job of watershed considerations and wildlife concerns.
Bottomline is that we would like the advantage of not developing the project, but are grateful for the years we have
enjoyed no close neighbors. We are impressed with the projected proposal and have no objections to it as presented.
Thank you,
Don A. Woolley
