Dear Mayor and Council,
Congratulations on receiving the Anholm Greenway Grant funding. I am excited to see that project finally be
constructed. As an Anholm resident I advocated for this project, and now I want to advocate for a complete network. I
won't ride my bike with my son on the back down S Higuera, it doesn't feel safe, which is inequitable for those who have
to use that corridor every day and those who rely on a bike as primary means for transportation. Same with Broad street
south of town.
There are many great active transportations going on in the City, but there is still a long list of projects needed to make
SLO connected with low stress active transportation alternatives. With the additional funding coming from the Urban
Greening grant, I am hopeful that the City will take the initial funding that the grant freed up to build and engineer other
parts of the Tier 1 Active Transportation network identified in the recently adopted ATP. For many years, active
transportation projects have been stalled due to lack of funding, including the Anholm Greenway, which was defunded
and deferred due to Covid. That is why I am writing to ask you to support the resolution for staff to identify potential
Tier 1 Active Transportation projects that can be funded with the additional unappropriated funds created by the
recently received grant. These funds can help the city make up for lost time and make meaningful progress on building
out the low stress Active Transportation network by 2030.
Thank you for your continued support of our Citys Major Goals.
Sincerely,
Chenin Otto
