Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Dear SLO City Council Members, With the pandemic, we saw the advent of outdoor seating areas in downtown SLO and it looks like (hopefully) these are here to stay. Some of these areas are already quite attractive; others are a little more ad-hoc. I’d like to suggest that the city sponsor a competition that will encourage businesses to make their outdoor areas more pleasing, and to attract attention and activity to downtown. Looking over the recently approved 2021-23 Financial Plan, there is a sizeable allotment allocated for downtown revitalization and economic recover; I think this would be a relatively low-cost high- impact activity. And a fun one! Scoring criteria or categories might include: comfort & ergonomics, use of sustainable/recycled materials, artwork (esp. local artists), incorporation of plants (esp. native plants), most exotic or transformational, best theme, etc. Cheers, -EP Erin Pearse (he/him) Mathematics Dept 1
