The Museum team is eager to meaningfully contribute to the realization of the City's Public Art Master Plan adopted in 2016. As the plan states: "public art is more than just statues in public locations. Public art can and should be ingrained in the civic imagination of a community. It can be on every street in every neighborhood; next to bike paths and along hiking trails. Art can be participatory and interactive or contemplative and passive." The San Luis Obispo Museum of Art is uniquely positioned at this time to activate the Public Art Program as it works to further invigorate our community's engagement with the arts. Specifically, the Museum demonstrated effective and engaging public art projects with the Through the Flowers installation in Mission Plaza during the month of April 2021, as well as the Pacificaribbean mural project that wraps the Museum itself. In each case, the public response to the project has been overwhelmingly positive and each project created an ongoing dialogue amongst residents and tourists alike. Additionally, the Museum's educational mission and programming allows for the community to more deeply engage with the art and artists that will be involved in these projects. The Museum's infrastructure supports K-12 engagement and public arts programming such as talks, panels, publications, and more. Our staff is uniquely positioned to facilitate the design, planning, selection, and execution of major public arts projects throughout the City of San Luis Obispo. Again, thank you for this opportunity. The Museum is excited to pursue San Luis Obispo's Public Art Plan as we work together to contribute to the intellectual, emotional, and creative life of our community by creating engaging and accessible art experiences and dynamic public spaces for residents and visitors. Regards, Charles Feltman San Luis Obispo Museum of Art Board President
