Subject: Item 7a - Open SLO Program
Dear City Council,
I would like to voice my support for maintaining the downtown parklets and pedestrian focused streets as part of the
Open SLO Program.
By removing a small amount of on street parking we have started transforming our downtown into a bustling pedestrian
space. With the addition of a fourth parking structure going in, street parking should be a low priority. By supplying this
additional space locally owned restaurants have been allowed to not only survive the pandemic, but begin to thrive. The
community has shown that they enjoy the added outdoor dining space as they continue to use it as indoor dining has
restarted. State street in Santa Barbara is a great example of continued community participation after the shutting of a
street. It is likely they will keep it shut permanently because of the benefits it has had to the restaurants and businesses
in their downtown corridor. In my opinion the parklets and pedestrian focused streets are a better way serve our
community, visitors, and businesses.
Thank you for your consideration.
