Subject:Proposed Changes to the Residential Parking Permit Program

San Luis Obispo City Council Members,
I am writing to support reasonable modifications to the existing residential parking permit program. My office is in the
Soda Water Works building at the Corner of Dana and Nipomo Street. All of Dana street has now been designated as
parking for residents only, leaving local businesses with limited parking options.
I appreciate the concerns of residents, who deserve street parking near their homes. The ability of residents to park on
their street should not be impinged on. However, there appear to be many more parking places available on Dana
Street than are used by residents during business hours. I propose that businesses on, or adjacent to, Dana Street be
allowed to purchase parking permits similar to resident permits. Permits would be restricted to buildings that are on
Dana Street. This approach would treat both the residents and businesses that share the street equitably, without
opening up the street to an influx of parking by non-residents.
I understand you will be addressing this at your August 24 meeting. I urge you to adopt these reasonable and limited
modifications that will treat all landowners on Dana Street fairly.
Thank you,
Derrik Williams, P.G., C.Hg.
