It is very pleasant to sit outside on a beautiful day like today. I was having a lovely lunch with two girlfriends outside at Giuseppes. Sadly, a man with a blanket around him and clearly schizophrenic, approached our table several times. I normally avoid downtown because seeing the steady stream of house less people is quite upsetting to me. And I’m not alone in my feelings about downtown, in terms of SLO residents. When I went to visit the art installation at the Mission Plaza several months ago, the wandering men wrapped in blankets furthered my distaste for a downtown visit. I am happy to see that tourists are back and our economy needs them. Hopefully this will continue and we can stay in the Yellow Tier. I know that not one person or body has answers to the house less and mentally ill on our streets. I felt compelled to write to you today, not expecting answers, just a reflection on my experience today eating at a parklet. Next time I will eat indoors. And I am not callous to the plight of the wanderers. I have donated sleeping bags and blankets and money to local charities. I pay property taxes. Anyway, thanks for listening.
