Upcoming Events
The Cost of Revolution postponed to 9/30
Men of Color Success 9/24 at 12pm
State of Latinx is next Thursday 10/1
Anya will be out until January 2021 and they are looking for stretch support 15-
20 hours per week from campus staff.
Anya is out on catastrophic leave, please contact to Laurie Kobliska 756-
5833 or kobliska@calpoly.edu to request a donation form for leave
credits.
o OUDI – Dr. Isom/Staci
Press release – ASPIRE research center in Ethnic Studies
Student research is a huge component – Dr. Jenell Navarro will lead the
center
First Generation portal by end of next week with resources for first generation
students. They will also link with Admissions for further information. Links for
faculty/staff profiles and student profile of a couple of students. Call
forthcoming for participation.
Other research opportunities regarding Cal Poly and African American
communities and related health concerns are pending.
Membership Discussion
o Membership Directory [Camille]
Published membership directory will be added to the BFSA website shortly after
October 1. Directory will only include active Cal Poly email accounts associated
with the BFSA listserve. Please let Camille know if you would like to opt out of
the directory by October 1.
o Membership Dues
Updates made to include several options pay via PayPal; however, current dues
are $30.00 for the period August 2020 – July 2021

BFSA Website Updates [Ethny]

o Camille, Staci, Erica, and Ethny (website committee) met earlier this month to make
revisions to the BFSA website.
Past Photos - They would like to collect any past photos from BFSA events.
Please forward the photos to Camille and/or Ethny.
Hero photos/profiles – The committee would also like to expand the
hero”/profile photos listed. If you have suggestions to add, please let Camille
and/or Ethny know.

o Interest – There is general interest by the group to proceed, but as a separate event

2020-21 Events/Activities [Immanuel]
o Informal Hangouts
Planning for informal hangouts – a week notice will be given in advance of the
hangout.
Jamie open to coffee in the morning (before 7:30am). Details to come.
o Fall 2020 Dates – All virtual (calendar invites shared with list with Zoom invites)

President Sara Sparks is asking for BFSA member to sit on their general meeting
to further connect the two organizations. If interested, please contact Ethny,
Immanuel, and/or Camille.
o Opportunities City of SLO
Erica Stewart notified the group of the Diversity Equity Inclusion Task Force
Grants. For more information see www.slocity.org/DEI-NOFA.
o Winter 2021 - Proposed Events – All virtual
Tentatively planned in February (Black History Month) - Black Legacy Weekend
Reboot) to align with Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum visit, Living the Dream, and
basketball game
Update to prior discussion
BLW weekend is pending – BFSA waiting on CPBAC and vice-versa.
There could be a possibility of a social distance event in a park where
food (Walter?) is provided.
Option with basketball game is likely tabled due to the season being
virtual (no audience)
Camille has not re-connected with Dr. Daniel Tatum about options
available given virtual status for winter 2021.

ASI Events and the Black Academic Excellence Center present The Cost of
a Revolution: An Evening with Patrisse Cullors and the Family of George
Floyd. Join us next Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. for a keynote speech
from Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors and a moderated
