I speak for all of my immediate community when I say having your leadership right now more than ever is so appreciated and so crucial. You exemplify the importance of how women in leadership can bring compassion into communities.Thank you for all you do! -Sara Sara Della Ripa Biomedical Engineer phone: 805-444-4636 Heidi, I want to express deep gratitude for you and the leadership you model in a community that I am proud to call home.As a young woman who cares about community, justice, and belonging, I feel empowered observing the way you show up in the world and in your role. I recognize that the feedback you get is often negative, and that your job is not only hard but multifaceted in the ways it must be challenging. Know that for all the negative comments and criticism, there are even more people in this community who see you, and hear you, and understand that you are doing your best.Thank you for showing up, working hard, and leading the way.You make this town an even better place, just by being you. We should tell you more often. Carolyn Dear Mayor Harmon, Thank you so much to taking the time to speak to us in Ryan's class tonight. I really appreciate it because I know how busy you must be. I want to say that I thought your letter to the editor was very thoughtful and very balanced -such a difficult task in these times. And I can't imagine how difficult your job must be. Keep up the good work and thanks for all you do! Dianna Director of Programming Extended Education Academic Affairs Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA Dear Ryan, Thank you so much for arranging for Mayor Harmon to join the meeting. That was a real treat for all of us, especially for the LAs. I appreciated Mayor Harmon's honesty and straightforward talk. No platitudes, no vacuous promises. These issues are hard and I'm so grateful that we have her representing SLO in the greater community. As a politician she understands that you have to be at the table to influence the discussion. But her values of listening to others, being curious, not assuming one has all the answers, and engaging each other with respect but without being overly solicitous, came through loudly and clearly. I also appreciated that you, Ryan, have created an environment in which Heidi was able to "let her hair down" and eat her dinner. What a rare occasion that must be for the mayor during these difficult times! Thanks so much, Sta matis Stamatis Vokos Professor of Physics and STAR Director Physics Department and Center for Engineering,Science, and Mathematics Education Office:25-127 Hello Mayor Harmon, My name is Anna Reid and I was present at the Race in America discussion facilitated by Professor Ryan Alaniz. It was wonderful to hear of your plans and thoughts about the future of SLO as a student of Cal Poly. I really appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to answer our questions. Best, Anna Reid I'd also like to give another thank you to you, as none of this would be possible otherwise. I'm learning so much, and I am so thankful to take part in these discussions. I hope that you have a wonderful rest of your week, as well. Best, Anna Reid Hello Mayor Harmon, Thank you so much for logging on to speak to my friends and me about your recent statements, or questions rather, regarding Black Lives Matter in San Luis Obispo. I greatly appreciate your time and dedication not only to my friends me, but also to keeping the San Luis Obispo community's welcoming spirit in tact while it hopefully transforms into a more diverse and inclusive space for all people, but more specifically Black people and people of color. I admire your composure in addressing residents and compassion for everyone in our community. I hope you are met with much success as you strive to make San Luis Obispo even better than the happiest city in North America. Sincerely, Shay Mellor She/Her/Hers) Mayor Heidi Harmon, Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to come to our meeting. I appreciate how you answered each question professionally with honesty and integrity, and I valued how you envision transformative justice over simply blaming the justice system. In order for progressive, inclusive change to occur, we cannot alienate certain groups that are a part of the problem that is to be solved. Thank you for your efforts to improve San Luis Obispo county. Lia Roccucci
