RE: Proposed modifications to current parking ordinance
As a resident in your MH Parking Permit District I am shocked to see the proposed changes to your
current regulations.
1. Businesses that haven't got adequate parking and want to encroach on neighborhood parking
need to solve their problems in other ways. One of which could be the new parking structure that is
currently missing. Loss of current downtown parking due to development and parklets are major
contributors to this problem.
2. The issuance of parking permits within these Parking Permit Districts are solely controlled by the
property's owner currently and I see absolutely no reason to complicate this system. The owners are
the only parties mature enough to control the permits for their properties.
3. Living within a Parking Permit District makes me wonder where and why the extra parking permits
could be provided. My neighborhood is inundated with visitors of your residential densification
projects. The required parking for these 4 and less housing projects does not provide sufficient
parking now, which makes the current (when both college age schools are actually open) street
parking tenuous at best. I finally have had to join the Red Curb Permits to keep the college age kids
from encroaching on our only driveway. If I know that I am going to have more than two extra vehicles
for an evening, I can obtain one day permits for that day.
I sent my $40.00 in for my new permits the other day. A form requesting my license plate numbers,
model of car and color of car was enclosed with the permit request. Wow! A actual solution to those
of us who forget to hang the permit from our auto's rearview mirror. The elimination of the hanging
permit makes much more sense than the proposed items due for your review on August 24th. Most of
my neighbors are itinerates. Based on the trash, noise, and destruction of property generated by
these neighbors it is obvious to me that the proposed changes will just allow more of the same.
