Re 8/23/21 meeting:
Public comment for non-agenda items:
This latest behemoth coming before the city cries out for the ordinance I propose:
Any developer/owner with a project that destroys more than 5 trees and/or promises more than 5
“replacement trees”, should have to submit an initial report that includes the following for
each “replacement” tree: location (likely from map submitted with application), type, height and
caliper size. Then, EACH year, the owner must submit a follow-up report, giving the location
(probably using letters and/or numbers to identify each tree), height and caliper size of each
“replacement tree”. Then, when the updated specs show a lack of care for the trees, a fine
should be levied for each non-progressing tree and a “new replacement tree” should be
planted for those that are neglected beyond repair.
Maybe developers who know that there will be follow-up will care for the trees, not just use them as
fake indications on applications. Again, reference Home Depot if you don’t believe that follow-up
is needed.
Item 2, 900 Tank Farm:
Another behemoth being foisted off on the rubes who “lead” San Luis Obispo.
Please, please read and heed Alan Cooper’s letter to you on this project.
Last month, you saw that the developers of the behemoth-du-jour (airport hotel) lied on their
application regarding trees. Why not lie? Nothing happens to you when you lie to this committee.
As Mr. Cooper’s letter proves, this developer lied in their application about the condition and expected life-span
of the Eucalyptus trees they want to slaughter. Tell them to submit a revised application, without the lies,
and DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO SLAUGHTER ANY OF THESE TREES. The trees do NOT interfere with
the project. Don’t allow slaughter here, like you did at Dalidio.

Tree Committee, re 8/23/21:
Re non-agenda Public Comment:
The behemoth projects before this committee the last two months cry out for my proposed ordinance:
Any developer with a project of more than 10 acres, and/or with a project that proposes more than 10
“replacement trees”, should have to submit a yearly update on the trees they planted: the initial report should
give the location, type, caliper and height of each tree (this would be easy; just use the map in the application and
identify each tree by number). Then, EVERY year, the developer (or owner, or new owner) should be required
to submit a follow-up report, with the caliper and height of each tree.
With even the largest development (of course, MANY more are to come as this city is destroyed), this report would take
an
employee no more than an hour or two and the rewards for the citizens would be massive: perhaps, owners who
have
NO problem asking to destroy trees would be a little more careful in their after-slaughter efforts if they knew that
the city
was going to follow up, not just let them go. (I’m looking at YOU, Home Depot(). Finally, there should be a per-tree
penalty
for every tree the owner fails to maintain and they should have to replace the twigs that show no care a year or
more later.
Reference Item 2, 900 Tank Farm:
Yet another behemoth being foisted off on the rubes who “lead” San Luis.
Please, please read and heed Alan Cooper’s letter to you regarding this.
Last month, we reviewed the application for the behemoth airport hotel and we found that the applicants
had lied on their application; NOTHING happened to them, so why not lie?
Now, this month, as Alan’s letter points out, this applicant repeatedly lied about the condition and expected
life span of the Eucalyptus trees they want to slaughter.
This city already allowed unjustified slaughter of hundreds of trees at Dalidio; please do not do so with this one.
The trees do not interfere with the project; tell these liars to tell the truth in a revised application and
DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO SLAUGHTER ANY OF THESE TREES.
Else, you’re just moving around the deck chairs on the Titanic (i.e., our formerly-fair city).
