Hello
I am writing to express my concerns related to the proposed changes to the residential street permit processes that are
in place in many neighborhoods. The homes in our district were built in the 1950s when most homeowners had 1 and at
most
2 cars. When the transient student population began to move into the
neighborhoods many homeowners found they could no longer park anywhere close to the homes they had put their life
savings into. This led many of us to vote to pass our 2 permit per household program. This has worked very well for the
most part. The situation has become a bit more problematic since the city began encouraging homeowners to convert
garages to dwellings, thus forcing cars out into the streets. This together with the fact students don't park cars in
garages because of all their stuff has once again led to problems with parking accessibility in our neighborhoods.
There are six homes at the end of my street. There are eight parking spots in front of these homes. Even with 2 permits
per home one can easily see there are not enough spots to accommodate all the cars.
Increasing the number of permits to 4 will only make a bad situation worse. I am sure the student population will
overwhelmingly support your proposed idea. I can't imagine many full time permanent residents
doing the same. I think it will come down to which group the city
believes should have more of a say - those permanently here or those only here for a couple of years.
Thanks
