Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Honorable Mayor and Members of the Council : Attached is a letter from a former neighbor of ours on Stanford Drive whose family lived there for many years. His concern regarding safety is genuine, and you will note from the content of the letter that his wife experienced a frightening situation for her little boy´s safety. Too often the matter of safety is underestimated until an accident of serious nature happens. Too often changes are made after the fact, echoing concerns raised before the fact. We ask the Council to take the effort to personally observe and evaluate the road and its limitations, as Ms. Dandekar did when making judgment on this project within her role on the Planning Commission. Residents of Stanford Drive do not feel the City report gives a fair picture of the potential impact in terms of safety of the Westmont project. A true picture of the road´s excessive traffic is only measurable once the Cal Poly students return in numbers, compounded by the numbers of their vehicles ( including electric scooters and motor bikes ).Thank you for your independent judgment and consideration. I lived at 599 Stanford Drive in 2007 with my wife and two children. Upon returning home from work my wife told my that a young man was driving from upper Stanford, toward Highland and he lost control negotiating the curve in the road. He drove up the curb, into the parkway, on the sidewalk, and struck a tree directly in front of our house. My wife and son had just been on that sidewalk, under that tree, my son riding a tricycle. The young man panicked, drove off, then returned shortly to apologize and offer to pay for any damage to the tree and parkway plants. Fortunately, no one was hurt. no longer live on Stanford drive. But fifteen miles per hour was the standard speed, for that road. It was narrow, with a restricted view due to the trees and the curve in the road. If two large trucks or SUVs came down the street at the same time, there was not much room for anything else. Stanford Drive is a narrow, slow driving street, not intended for sustained thru traffic. I was shocked to hear it was being considered for more traffic. I think this is a mistake. Please consider an alternative route for the safety of the people that live there. Thank you, Matt Lodge
