HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-03-2021 HRC MinutesMinutes Human Relations Commission Wednesday, March 3, 2021 Regular Meeting of the Human Relations Commission CALL TO ORDER A Regular Meeting of the San Luis Obispo Human Relations Commission was called to order on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at 5:00 a.m. via teleconference by Chair Campbell. ROLL CALL Present: Commissioners Dusty Colyer-Worth, Angie Kasprzak (arrived at 5:02pm), Emily Rosten, Megan Souza, Vice Chair Abe Lincoln, and Chair Renoda Campbell Absent: Commissioner Jeannette Richardson Staff & Guests: Cara Vereschagin, Housing Coordinator; Michael Codron, Community Development Director PUBLIC COMMENT FOR ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA None --End of Public Comment-- APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1.Consideration of Minutes of the Human Relations Commission meeting of February 3, 2021. ACTION: MOTION BY COMMISSIONER ROSTEN, SECOND BY COMMISSIONER VICE CHAIR LINCOLN, 6-0-1 to approve the minutes of the meeting of the Human Relations Commission of February 3, 2021. BUSINESS ITEMS 2.Review of 2020-21 Grants-in-Aid (GIA) Mid-Year Reports and Liaison Progress Reports The Commission discussed the mid-year reports per their liaison assignments and briefly reported out on key accomplishments their assigned organizations have made using the GIA funding thus far in the grant cycle. Specifically, the Commission talked about limitations and impacts on the organizations due to the COVID-19 pandemic and possible expansion of the expulsion of funds. City of San Luis Obispo, Title, Subtitle Minutes Human Relations Commission Meeting of March 3, 2021 Page 2 3.HRC Strategic Planning Implementation The HRC discussed the healthcare focus area to their purview in relation to the ongoing Strategic Planning Implementation efforts. Commissioners were in agreement that by supporting policies focused on health and wellness will improve the overall wellbeing of City residents. Staff discussed the challenges of the City not being a social services provider, but encouraged the Commission to keep thinking where a healthcare priority can fit into the business of the City (i.e. Major City Goal or Diversity, Equity, & Inclusivity initiatives). STAFF & COMMISSION COMMUNICATIONS 4.Staff Updates Housing Coordinator Vereschagin provided an update on the City Council’s review of the FY2021 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) recommendations. 5.Commissioner Updates The Commission thanked Vice Chair Lincoln for his service on the HRC over the years and Director Codron for attending the meeting and participating in the Strategic Planning conversation. ADJOURNMENT Chair Campbell adjourned the meeting at 6:08 p.m. The next Regular Meeting of the Human Relations Commission is scheduled for Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 5:00 p.m., via teleconference.
