HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 1 - 02-03-2021 HRC Draft Minutes Draft Minutes Human Relations Commission Wednesday, February 3, 2020 Regular Meeting of the Human Relations Commission CALL TO ORDER A Regular Meeting of the San Luis Obispo Human Relations Commission was called to order on Wednesday, February 3, 2020 at 5:00 a.m. via teleconference by Chair Campbell. ROLL CALL Present: Commissioners Dusty Colyer-Worth, Angie Kasprzak, Jeannette Richardson, Emily Rosten, Megan Souza, Vice Chair Abe Lincoln, and Chair Renoda Campbell Absent: None Staff & Guests: Cara Vereschagin, Housing Coordinator; Owen Goode, Planning Intern; Dale Magee, Catalyst Consulting PUBLIC COMMENT FOR ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA None --End of Public Comment-- APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Consideration of Minutes of the Human Relations Commission meetings of December 2, 2020 and December 14, 2020. ACTION: MOTION BY COMMISSIONER ROSTEN, SECOND BY COMMISSIONER SOUZA, 7-0-0 to approve the minutes of the meetings of the Human Relations Commission on December 2, 2020 and December 14, 2020. BUSINESS ITEMS 2. Assign Subcommittee to Review 2021-22 Grants-in-Aid (GIA) Applications The HRC developed a subcommittee to review GIA applications received for the 2021-22 funding year. 3. HRC Strategic Planning Implementation Next Steps The HRC’s subcommittee presented proposed edits to a revised purpose statement and name change in relation to the ongoing Strategic Planning Implementation efforts. Comments were solicited by City of San Luis Obispo, Title, Subtitle Minutes Human Relations Commission Meeting of February 3, 2021 Page 2 the Commission, and subcommittee agreed to meet subsequently to incorporate the Commission’s input on the purpose statement. The Commission agreed to table the discussion on the name change to a future meeting uncertain. <Commissioner Rosten left the meeting at 6:02pm and the HRC took a 5min recess.> <Meeting began again at 6:10pm.> Dale Magee discussed an upcoming TEACH-IN event hosted by Cal Poly on social justice issues and inquired whether the Commission was comfortable endorsing the event on the promotional communications. ACTION: MOTION BY COMMISSIONER SOUZA, SECOND BY COMMISSIONER COLYER-WORTH, 6-0-1 to approve the HRC endorsement on the Cal Poly’s TEACH-IN event promotional communications. The HRC agreed to continue the strategic planning discussions at the March and April meetings, and specifically to discuss the “health care” area of expanded purview at the March 2021 meeting. STAFF & COMMISSION COMMUNICATIONS 4. Staff Updates Housing Coordinator Vereschagin shared latest updates on the City’s FY2021 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) process and the regional coronavirus-CDBG funding. 5. Commissioner Updates Chair Campbell reminded the Commission that February was Black History Month and announced an upcoming event to honor and observe the Month. Vice Chair Lincoln announced that this last HRC meeting will be in March 2021. ADJOURNMENT Chair Campbell adjourned the meeting at 6:50 p.m. The next Regular Meeting of the Human Relations Commission is scheduled for Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 5:00 p.m., via teleconference.
