BUSINESS ITEM Strategic Planning Session to discuss amending/enhancing the purview of the Human Relations Commission in response to future Diversity,Equity,&Inclusion (DEI)program implementation and other community needs ____________________________________________________ Recommendation: Hold a strategic planning session to discuss amending/enhancing the purview of the Human Relations Commission in response to future DEI Program implementation and other community needs. Preliminary Timeline Dates Action Item November 17, 2020 City Council consideration of DEI Grant awards. November 20, 2020 HRC Strategic Planning Session #1 December 2020 HRC Strategic Planning Session #2 January 12, 2021 January 2021 Council consideration of DEI Task Force’s recommendations for ongoing implementation and advancement of City’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. Council consideration of HRC recommendations for amendment/enhancement of purview February 2021 City Council direction on 2021-23 budgetary resources and major city goals (Goal Setting Workshop) March/April 2021 Staff budget preparation and final Council adoption; additional resources allocated to enhanced HRC purview Session #1: Visioning & Ideation Facilitated discussion and planning with Dale Magee Ideas, options, considerations of opportunities and constraints Wrap Up –identify “homework” prior to Session #2 Purpose of the HRC “It is the purpose of the Human Relations Commission to advise the Council in its actions to create an environment within the City in which all persons can enjoy equal rights and opportunities regardless of race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, or physical, mental or economic status. The Human Relations Commission shall make recommendations to the City Council or the City Manager on how these social concerns and human needs can best be addressed.” Any questions before we move to Public Comment?
