Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Dear Madame Mayor and council members, I would like to submit a comment in support of the planning commission's recommendation to move forward in the process of the creation of 23 residential lots in the Stanford/Cuesta area off of Highland Drive. This is item 7b on the 9/7/21 agenda. Approving this recommendation would help the city make progress on multiple major city goals. The creation of these lots helps to address the housing shortage, which in turn helps our economy. Given that these lots are contiguous with an existing walkable neighborhood, and within reasonable distance of elementary schools, Cal Poly and shopping on Foothill Blvd, this type of development is consistent with doing our part to address climate change. The council could help further meet these goals, now or in the future, by creating a higher number of lots, allowing multi-family housing, and/or by ensuring this addition will include bicycle and pedestrian facilities and that traffic calming measures will keep vehicle speeds to 20mph or slower. Finally, I'd like to add that I am a current resident of the Highland neighborhood and that I grew up in the neighborhood as well, and that I am supportive of this addition. I don't believe this addition would damage the neighborhood at all. While no one unit of housing, and no one walkable/bikeable block will make "the" difference on climate change or the housing shortage, it's important we do our part on these important issues. Best regards, Connor Culhane 1
