Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. ATC members and Staff, I am in agreement with staff’s recommendation to focus on the Higuera/S. Higuera corridor (Marsh to LOVR). I understand that at this point the real details are not yet flushed out. However, I do want to express my concern with Cross Section Map 2 (Attachment B), High - South. When southbound, I believe that the installation of physical barriers between the bike lane and the MV travel lanes will prevent bicyclists from positioning themselves correctly for their destination of travel at the South intersection (continuing straight - south - on Higuera, or turning left onto South St.). This non-standard intersection currently forces straight-through bicyclists to cross two lanes of right turning traffic if they don’t merge from the bike lane in advance of the intersection. Therefore a standard termination of the barrier prior to the intersection would not give sufficient room to merge into the correct lane to allow bicyclists wishing to continue straight, or to turn left. Also note, in addition to the driveways along this section, there is also a transit stop that would have to be accommodated if physical barriers are installed. My recommendation would be to only install a painted buffer for the south bound side of this section. Crossing movements within intersections are the highest MT/Bicycle collision type. Thank you for your consideration. Kevin Christian 1
