Good Evening,
Please find attached the NTMA I’m submitting with request for traffic calming measures in my neighborhood during
upcoming improvements planned for 2022.
I’m a lifelong resident of the Anholm neighborhood (My mother still lives on Mission Street), and I’ve been on West
street (corner of Lincoln and West) since 2012 where I reside with my wife and two sons (ages one and three). Over the
years I’ve seen traffic increase throughout the city (which is unavoidable with growth), but driving habits in our
neighborhood (particularly Lincoln and West Street) have gotten substantially worst. From my house I can see the entire
stretch of Lincoln from Chorro all the way to West, and I witness dozens of drivers speeding in excess of 35mph daily.
These are not people that live in the neighborhood, but individuals that want to miss the speed bumps on Broad or stop
signs on Chorro and choose Lincoln (to West street) as their personal autobahn in an effort to bypass others (I’ve named
them “bypassers”). There are numerous young families in the neighborhood, and kids are out and about playing games,
going to the park, riding bikes, scooters, skateboards, and just being kids. This neighborhood is truly magical, with the
exception of a lack of traffic calming measures to mitigate unsafe driving.
As stated before, I’m a lifelong resident of this neighborhood and in my 36 years on earth I’ve never written and email to
city staff members or advisory committees asking for help. But that’s how important this topic is to me and my family.
It’s a horrible feeling to be worried for your kids anytime they want to play outside. Something has got to change before
someone gets seriously injured or killed. Please implement traffic calming measures or any modifications to prevent
“bypassers”.
Thanks,
Scott Hildebrand
