Re: Heritage Tree Nomination 159 Broad street right of way
Dear Members of the Tree Committee,
Please support nomination of the Quercus agrifolia (Coast live oak) at the above address as a designated Heritage Tree. I
am delighted that the Arborist's recommendation is for approval, and for retention of the tree as an asset to the Anholm
Greenway.
As I stated in my nomination of this tree, this is a lovely and vigorous urban specimen of this regionally-characteristic
native oak with ample space to continue growing for a long time, in a location where the public at large can enjoy it.
I think further having such a fine specimen on prominent display may help build interest among the public in planting and
stewarding this -- and perhaps other -- native trees.
My nomination's conclusion summarized the tree’s merits this way: “This tree is a valuable street tree, a valuable urban
example of one of our primary wild natives, plays roles in climate stabilization and in species protection, and will be an
important asset to the Anholm Greenway. It is consistent with numerous city policies to protect and honor this tree as a
Heritage Tree.”
Thank you for giving this nomination your thought, time and consideration.
I regret the Covid situation means I cannot come to your meeting in person to speak for this tree.
Sincerely,
Richard Schmidt
