Council Members:
With the encouragement of professional colleagues and friends across our community, Mike Draze has applied
for the vacant council seat. The city is fortunate that Mike has made that decision and commitment to
serve our SLO Community. I have known Mike for over thirty years, and have had the opportunity to work with
him professionally when I served as County Superintendent of Schools. Mike is a problem solver and consensus
builder. He is not interested in credit, blame or notoriety. He is interested in contributing to a culture of civility and
thoughtfulness in the governance process. Mike would bring to the council not only extensive experience within
the governance structure of SLO, but also within SLO county, Santa Barbara, Pismo Beach and the State of
California. This is a breadth of experience unrivaled by any candidate for the seat. I don't have to tell you that
this is a very challenging time for the city and our community. The Council faces challenges of water, growth,
housing, public safety, diversity, as well as day to day pot holes and parking. Mike is a candidate, by
temperament, judgement and experience, to help lead the city though these difficult and challenging times.
Respectfully,
Kenneth Palmer
