Honorable City Council,
First, I would like to thank you all for your tireless efforts to improve our city, especially during these difficult
times. While we will miss Mayor Harmon, her departure opens the opportunity for other determined and intentional
people to help navigate San Luis Obispo into the future. Of all of the candidates that have put their names forward, I
know two personally, both of whom would be incredible assets to our community.
I worked with Michelle Shoresman during the intern year of my Master's of Public Health, while also working at French
and Arroyo Grande Hospitals in the ER. Michelle has worked at the County for 20 years and has shown amazing
leadership in a variety of roles, including the director of Disaster Preparedness, where I had the honor of being on her
team. I have been continually impressed with Michelle's energy and passion in efforts to improve the community, from
advocating for safer bicycle routes, to marching for Women's Rights, to becoming one of the primary spokespeople for
Public Health during the pandemic to keep us informed. Considering her experience, intelligence, teamsmanship, and
passion, Michelle Shoresman will be a phenomenal addition to the San Luis Obispo City Council.
In addition, Emily Francis, a local educator and activist, is another highly qualified candidate to fill the vacant Council
seat. Emily has an incredible depth of knowledge on history and government, and is an enthusiastic advocate for social
justice and equality. Emily's straightforward and thoughtful approach to problem-solving is able to navigate complex
issues to find logical and fair solutions. She is passionate about the environment, education, and fostering a
compassionate community. Emily would also be an extraordinary addition to our local governance as a San Luis Obispo
City Council member.
Thank you for your leadership and your consideration of these highly capable and motivated individuals.
Sincerely,
Clint Slaughter
